New leadership for SAMCAR
The San Mateo County Association of REALTORS® (SAMCAR) installed its leadership team for 2008 at a Dec. 6 gala at the Hyatt SFO in Burlingame. California Association of REALTORS® 2008 President Bill Brown administered the oath of office to SAMCAR’s 2008 board of directors and president. Sue Walsh, a Realtor with Cashin Company in Burlingame, took the oath of office as SAMCAR 2008 President. Olivia Edwards, a Realtor with Keller Williams Realty in San Mateo, is SAMCAR’s new president-elect.
In addition to Walsh and Edwards, the following SAMCAR members will serve on SAMCAR’s 2008 Board of Directors: Tim Auran (Realtor, Burlingame), Eric Berggren (Intero Real Estate Services, San Carlos), John Clifford (Clifford Real Estate, Burlingame), Geoffrey Craighead (Craighead Associates, San Carlos), Nini de la Fuente-Pecson (Prudential California Realty, Daly City), Bobbi Decker (Keller Williams Realty, San Mateo), Suzan Getchell-Wallace (Coldwell Banker Fahey Prop. Inc., Pacifica), Anne Oliva (Marshall Realty, San Bruno), Jennifer Tasto (Property Services, Inc., Burlingame), Edgar Tulcanaza (Guarantee Mortgage, San Mateo), Sue Vaterlaus (RE/MAX Dolphin Real Estate, Pacifica), Marianne Zanone Rush (Coldwell Banker, Redwood City) and David Zigal (Realtor, San Mateo).
A highlight of the evening was the special recognition of SAMCAR member Les Williams, a Realtor with Cashin Company, San Mateo.
Williams was among 300 Tuskegee Airmen presented with the Leonard Houston Carter Award and collectively awarded the Congressional Gold Medal by U.S. President George W. Bush this year.

In attendance were San Mateo County supervisors Rose Jacobs Gibson and Jerry Hill, Burlingame Mayor Rosalie O’Mahony, Foster City Mayor Pam Frisella, South San Francisco Mayor Rich Garbarino, South San Francisco Councilwoman Karyl Mastsumoto and former state senator Jackie Speier.
Go Global Green
Global Green USA celebrated its Third Annual San Francisco Benefit Party Dec. 18 at Bentley Reserve in the historic San Francisco mint.
The event, entitled "Gorgeous and Green,” focused on green design solutions to combat climate change and other environmental issues. Proceeds from the evening benefited Global Green’s projects, including the Green Schools Initiative and the Holy Cross project, the first sustainable low-income housing community in New Orleans’ Lower Ninth Ward. Global Green USA, the American affiliate of Mikhail Gorbachev’s Green Cross International, hosts the "Red Carpet, Green Cars” Campaign at the Oscars, and is working to green-rebuild New Orleans. Global Green also runs the Green Affordable Housing and Green Schools programs.
