The answer to much of California's energy woes could be just a flip of the switch away thanks to brainy radio talk show host Bill Wattenburg.
Wattenburg and researchers at Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory have been experimenting with a switching device that could shut off partial power to homes during Stage 3 power alerts.
Lights and small appliances would remain powered, while air conditioners, electric stoves and water heaters would be shut down for a few hours.
Wattenburg hosts a weekend call-in show on KGO AM 810 where he posits solutions for various technological ills and also finds time to give quick math and science pointers to listeners who fondly refer to him as
