Zach Dahl, deputy director of the San Mateo Community Development Department who has led the department on an interim basis since July 2023, has been appointed to permanently fill the role.
Dahl joined the city in the deputy director role in June 2021, bringing more than 22 years of planning experience from the public and private sectors. Prior to joining the city, he served as Planning and Building Director with the town of Los Altos Hills, and as Planning Services manager with the city of Los Altos. He holds a degree in city and regional planning from Cal Poly San Luis Obispo, and is certified by the American Institute of Certified Planners.
When not managing the city’s complex development and planning efforts, Dahl spends his time with his wife Alexa and their two sons Oliver and Gabriel, and with his hobbies of gardening, hiking, carpentry, golf and traveling.
