The North Block of Hillsdale Shopping Center in San Mateo.
San Mateo police have announced a soft opening of a new substation at the Hillsdale Shopping Center Tuesday, Nov. 26, across from the Andersen Bakery and next to AT&T.
The goal is to provide a police presence at the shopping center during the holiday season and will be a place where officers can write reports, address situations occurring at the mall, or where members of the community can obtain advice regarding police services.
It is slated to be open Tuesdays through Fridays from noon until 5 p.m.
There will be community service officers working there and police officers will be there from time to time. Police note calling 911 is still preferred for reporting in-progress crimes or in an emergency. The space will undergo changes as adjustments are made, according to police.
