The San Mateo Police Department was awarded a $210,000 grant through the California Office of Traffic Safety in support of its enforcement and education program focused on reducing serious injuries and deaths on roads.
“This funding will strengthen our commitment to public safety in our community,” San Mateo Police Department Sgt. Craig Collom said in a press release Friday, Nov. 10. “We will be able to increase our efforts in making our roads safer for everyone and focus on critical areas such as distracted driving, impaired driving and speeding.”
The grant will support about a year of programming from establishing more checkpoints and patrols of people driving under the influence and enforcement operations regarding distracted driving to additional officer training and recertifications and public education campaigns.
