Seven members of the San Mateo Medical Center Board chose to abstain from voting to adopt a resolution in solidarity with health care workers in Gaza or call for a cease-fire between Israel and Palestine Monday.

Supervisor Noelia Corzo, who initially presented the resolution, still motioned for a second despite its guaranteed failure.

Noelia is out of control, and she is endangering the local governmental process. As a public official she is making my job harder. This is a self-serving move and will result in more division in the county. Noelia, just stop. Now.

“I will continue to condemn any and all attacks on innocent civilians and medical workers, even if it means I do so alone,” Corzo said. No mention of the attack by Hamas? She probably can't even find Palestine on a map. She ought to stick with issues in our County. There are already plenty of blowhards ahead of her.

The board's decision to steer clear of the Gaza cease-fire resolution was the correct one. Engaging in this issue wouldn't change the conflict but could deeply affect our local communities. Our Jewish neighbors already experience feelings of insecurity on the Peninsula, and we have to consider the impact of our decisions on their sense of safety.

Decisions on international conflicts are best left to the federal government. The White House and the State Department are equipped to address such delicate matters.

I also commend the San Mateo City Council for echoing this sentiment and refraining from discussing a cease-fire resolution last night. Vice Mayor Newsom deserves particular praise for his measured and heartfelt commentary last night, which could not have been easy, considering his family connection through his Palestinian wife. Council member Lee's poignant remarks also merit recognition. I was not aware of her jewish heritage.

Good job, SMMC Board in refusing to inflame division in our area. There are plenty of cities already doing that. In the future, perhaps the SMMC Board can refrain from putting up another “waste of time” resolution, as described by Dr. Diana Blum, and instead take up agenda items that would help patients.

Well said. The resolution would not bring about a ceasefire by both sides. It's simply virtue signaling by Ms Corzo.
