A new pedestrian mall is coming to San Carlos after councilmembers agreed to permanently close the 700 block of Laurel Street, codifying a COVID-era program aimed at helping some businesses keep afloat and residents get outside.

“I do feel this is going to transform our downtown. It’s going to turn it into something that’s going to be an attraction that will ultimately help so many businesses. We will be a destination, I think, unlike any other in the Peninsula,” Mayor Adam Rak said during a meeting Monday, Nov. 27.

This is great news. Congratulations San Carlos!

Awesome news - they should model the area after an Italian Piazza - it should become a destination point for people outside of the city as well.
