San Bruno police issued 22 administrative citations for illegal fireworks and responded to 96 complaints on the July 4 holiday as part of their increased enforcement effort.

Safe-and-sane fireworks are legal and sold in San Bruno but police made advance visits to areas that had previous problems with illegal fireworks such as firecrackers, bottle rockets, aerials, mortars, M-1000s, roman candles and others. Officers spoke with residents about the use of illegal fireworks, including enforcement efforts, penalties for the possession and use, and the danger these items pose to the community. The penalty for receiving an administrative citation for the possession/use of illegal fireworks is a $1,000 fine, according to police.
