A swarm of small earthquakes hit the East Bay yesterday, yet geologists say they are nothing to worry about.
"If you look to the past as an indication of the future, you'll see that [no smaller swarms] resulted in a larger earthquake," said David Oppenheimer, a seismologist with the United States Geological Survey.
Oppenheimer indicated a similar swarm happened in November without a larger earthquake to follow.
The USGS reported an earthquake with a 4.0 magnitude at approximately 10:45 a.m. in the ongoing series of 19 earthquakes since 8:19 a.m. Sunday morning San Ramon-Dublin area.
The Web site for the United States Geological Survey lists the latest quake a happening at 10:47 a.m. about three miles north of Dublin.
The earthquake was immediately followed by a 2.1 quake at 10:49 and a 3.5 quake at 10:51 a.m.<
