Undersheriff Chris Hsiung is leaving the San Mateo County Sheriff’s Office and will be replaced by Dan Perea, for the second in command position to Sheriff Christina Corpus, it was announced Friday.
Corpus did not want to say more than what was printed in a press release on the move that said the decision was after “careful consideration” and that both came “to the understanding that it is best for the organization to go in different directions.” Hsiung served in the role since February 2023, right after Corpus was elected to the office.
Stepping in on July 1, Perea “is expected to bring a dynamic and innovative perspective to our team. Undersheriff Perea is aligned with Sheriff Corpus’ vision for the Sheriff’s Office, emphasizing transparency, community engagement and exceptional public service,” according to the press release.
Other changes in the Sheriff’s Office this week include a new police chief to oversee the Coastside Patrol Bureau as Corpus named Capt. Richard Cheechov to replace Rebecca Albin, who left to pursue another law enforcement opportunity after nearly three years in the position.
