Millbrae has received confirmation that its draft housing element for 2023-31 substantially complies with all state requirements, the city said in a Feb. 27 press release.
The draft housing element will be certified upon approval by the Millbrae City Council at its City Council meeting Feb. 27, when a public hearing on the document will be held.
The plan identifies 2,199 sites of potential housing at varying affordability levels, nearly 663 more units than the previous housing cycle, according to the press release, and accompanies Millbrae’s General Plan and Downtown and El Camino Real Specific Plan.
“The approval of our draft Housing Element is the result of years of community engagement and hard work by our city staff and our steadfast commitment to becoming a regional partner to providing housing for families, seniors, veterans, and everyone who wants to call Millbrae home,” Millbrae Mayor Anders Fung said in the release. “This approval is highly important to our community.”
Millbrae’s housing element draft went through several iterations to satisfy the California Department of Housing and Community Development. Once a public hearing on the topic is held, the city will be authorized to transmit the final plan to the HCD, according to the release.
