A Millbrae public works employee has been charged with embezzlement and theft of government property for allegedly stealing city tools and using a department-issued credit card to buy tools to sell on the online platform OfferUp, San Mateo County District Attorney Steve Wagstaffe said.
The man, 30-year-old Manteca resident Evan Adrian Ramirez, has been employed with the city of Millbrae since 2017. The tools he allegedly stole from the city or purchased with city money totaled $7,400, and the crimes allegedly began in October 2023, Wagstaffe said.
The alleged crime was discovered after the public works department noticed numerous high-value items had been stolen, and a review of his department credit cards led to the embezzlement and theft finding, Wagstaffe said.
