A man arrested for allegedly attacking a “good Samaritan” last month at the San Carlos Caltrain station was found to be not competent to stand trial, according to the San Mateo County District Attorney’s Office.
On Dec. 23, 2025, a victim was allegedly attacked by the suspect after seeing the suspect allegedly harass a woman. The victim was described as a good Samaritan since he stepped in to help the woman from the suspect.
The suspect then fled the area after the assault. The victim suffered “significant facial injuries” and was taken to a hospital, the Sheriff’s Office said.
An investigation led to the arrest of Brian Weisl, 33, in South San Francisco. He was booked into the Maguire Correctional Facility on suspicion of inflicting serious bodily injury and assault.
Mental Health Judge Sharon K. Cho felt it was in the best interest of justice to send Weisl to send the defendant to the state hospital to attempt to restore him to competency.
The cases were continued to Jan. 27 for receipt of the placement report and for order for placement, according to prosecutors.
