OAKLAND — A San Francisco man remained on life support Sunday after suffering a brutal beating in downtown Oakland Friday afternoon, according to police.
Investigators said 59-year-old Tiansheng Yu was severely beaten as he and his son, 27-year-old Jin Cheng Yu, were shopping in the area around 3:00 p.m. Friday.
Police have released surveillance video of the two suspects they believe attacked Yu.
The video, obtained from a local business, shows the suspects before and after the attack, according to Oakland police spokesman Jeff Thomason.
"We have a sense of what happened,” said Thomason. "We’re just trying to find out why it happened and locate the suspects.”
One suspect is believed to be about 17 or 18-years-old, while the second suspect is believed to be between 17 and 20. The younger Yu told the San Francisco Chronicle that as was walking to a shop in the downtown area two young men or teenagers walking toward him slugged him in the eye "for no reason.”
"It happened so fast,” the younger Yu told the paper.

When his father, who was parking his car at the time, confronted the two a short while later, one of them punched his father in the mouth, knocking him to the ground, according to Yu.
The beating was witnessed by Jean Van Fleet, the owner of Bibliomania, a downtown bookstore, who described the daytime attack as "fairly shocking.”
After calling 911 from her store, Van Fleet said she and others walked over to the scene where they found the older Yu bleeding and unconscious
"He had blood running from the nose,” she said. "There was just blood all over him.”
Oakland Mayor Ron Dellums issued a statement calling the incident "senseless and outrageous.” The mayor said police have increased patrols in the downtown area.
Police and Crime Stoppers of Oakland are offering up to $15,000 in reward money for information leading to the attackers’ arrests.
