A man pleaded not guilty to charges of felony assault and possession of methamphetamine and drug paraphernalia Tuesday, according to the San Mateo County District Attorney’s Office.

Carlos Mora, 41, was found running along a Highway 101 median near the Ralston Avenue exit in August. When a California Highway Patrol officer approached him, he would not respond and continued acting erratically. The officer used a Taser on Mora, which he quickly recovered from, who then ran at the officer with a knife in his hand. The officer shot at Mora with a service weapon five times, striking Mora in the eye, his side and his leg. He was then arrested and transported to treat his injuries. An abandoned car later found off the shoulder of Highway 101 contained possessions, including methamphetamine and a pipe, belonging to Mora, according to prosecutors.
