A 22-year-old homeless man from Oakland has been charged with three felony counts for allegedly firing a handgun into the air between seven and nine times at a Redwood City intersection, San Mateo County District Attorney Steve Wagstaffe said.
The man, Kai Jones, allegedly said he was just testing the unregistered handgun after finding it at the Hillsdale Caltrain station, the DA’s Office said. The incident, which occurred at the intersection of Jefferson Avenue and El Camino Real on July 1, frightened several passersby, who took cover and called 911, Wagstaffe said.
Jones has been charged with five previous weapons violations felonies and faces up to four years and eight months in prison if found guilty, Wagstaffe said.
