A man was arrested in San Mateo Monday morning for attempting to rob a Chase Bank on East Fourth Avenue.Â
David Allen Hallmark, 29, of San Mateo, walked into the bank around 9:40 a.m. and handed the teller a note demanding money. The teller refused Hallmark, who proceeded to take a seat in the lobby of the bank.
As police established a perimeter around the bank, Hallmark exited the building and was captured and booked into county jail for attempted robbery.
San Mateo police Sgt. Amanda Von Glahn said Hallmark admitted to being at the bank for the purpose of robbing it, adding that it’s unclear why he lingered after his plan didn’t work.
Von Glahn said his behavior didn’t meet the requirement for an involuntary psychiatric hold.
Hallmark acted alone, no weapons were recovered and there were no injuries during the incident.
at 0935 smpd was handling the lion call, which seemed to use a lot of resources. between the bank event & the lion event, i wonder how backed up smpd was with calls such as alarms, traffic crashes, and suspicious subjects, etc? yup, and I'm in the minority, but smpd wasted a ton of resources on the lion event possibly jeopardizing the safety of citizens throughout the city.
