A 33-year-old man was found dead inside an apartment in South San Francisco on Monday, Dec. 1, after a fire broke out in the unit around 4 a.m.Ā
Emergency response teams attempted to resuscitate him though he was pronounced dead at the scene, a press release from the South San Francisco Police Department stated.Ā
The victim, Brandon Lee Cordova, was found inside the bedroom, where the fire appeared to originate, said Deputy Fire Chief Devin Flannery, though no details about the potential causes were provided as it remains under investigation.Ā
āThe room of origin was in that apartment, and it was contained to that room,ā Flannery said.Ā
According to records from the Coronerās Office, Cordova resided in Placerville.Ā

Residents were ordered to evacuate for several hours, returning at about 7:30 a.m.Ā
Flannery added that there was no damage to the rest of the building nor other apartment units.Ā
āThat time of the day is most dangerous, because people are sleeping,ā Flannery said. āAnd because it was on the first floor, there is always a high potential of flames going up to the second floor, but the [fire department] did a good job of containing it to that one area.ā
No other individuals were injured.
The incident remains under investigation by both the South San Francisco Police Department and South San Francisco Fire Department.
