A man died when his vehicle went off the road and crashed into a tree in unincorporated San Mateo County on Sunday morning, California Highway Patrol officials said.
Maxwell Vincent, 20, of the unincorporated San Mateo County community of San Gregorio, was found dead by a bicyclist who called the CHP at 8:24 a.m. to report the crash off of state Highway 1 just north of Stage Road, CHP spokesman Officer Art Montiel said.
When officers arrived, they found a 2002 Honda about 50 feet down an embankment.
Montiel said it appears Vincent was not wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash and may have been intoxicated.
Vincent may have survived the crash if he was wearing a seat belt, according to Montiel.
