A jury found a 41-year-old Oakland man guilty of two felonies for stealing a rental car from the San Francisco International Airport in March, San Mateo County District Attorney Steve Wagstaffe said.
The man, Lawrence Wiley, stole the $40,000 vehicle from the AVIS rental car parking lot, drove it through the gate arm and over the spike strips — disabling it — according to the DA’s Office.
His co-defendant, 44-year-old Oakland resident Michael Clark, was found not guilty of car theft and possession of a stolen car. Clark was allegedly in the passenger seat of the stolen vehicle.
Both Clark and Wiley were stopped and arrested at the scene of the crime.
Wiley could be sentenced to up to five years in prison for car theft and drug possession — he was found guilty of three misdemeanors for possessing meth at the time of the crime, Wagstaffe said.
