• State Assemblyman Ira Ruskin will host town hall and community coffee meetings to allow the public to ask questions and hear about the progress of the Joint Committee on the Master Plan for Higher Education.
The town hall meetings are 10 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. Saturday, March 27 at the Redwood City Community Activities Building, Room 2, 1400 Roosevelt Ave., Redwood City and 10 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. Saturday, April 10 at Palo Alto City Council Chambers, 250 Hamilton Ave., Palo Alto.
Coffee and conversation is 3 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. Saturday, April 10 at Brian’s Restaurant at the Rancho Shopping Center, 680 Fremont Ave., Los Altos.
County budget
• County Supervisor Carole Groom is asking to replace her District 2 nominee to the Charter Review Committee. Current member Ruth Nagler is asking to be replaced; Groom has nominated Carole Boes.
The Board of Supervisors will vote on the request as part of its consent calendar Tuesday, March 23 in Board Chambers, 400 County Government, Redwood City.
Education
• At a meeting of the San Mateo Union High School District’s Board of Trustees March 18, it was unanimously decided to employ a consultant to provide assistance in improving interpreting skills for district classified employees who aid in such important matters as academic counseling (including special education-related meetings), parent conferences and expulsion hearings, among other situations.
The program, which will involve 11 sessions spread over two school years, ending in 2011, will be directed by Nora Goodfriend-Koven, director of the medical interpreting certification program at City College of San Francisco.
