With campaign spending forms coming in, the San Bruno campaign boasting the highest support is Measure G to keep the city’s fireworks.
The Citizens for a Safer 4th of July raised $51,845 to make their point. Although the group’s explanation for itself is the Coalition of San Bruno Nonprofit Groups none of the money came from San Bruno or even the county. To date, American Promotional Events, Inc. out of Fullerton has given $36,845 and B.J. Alan Company from Youngstown, Ohio gave $15,000. Both are involved in the distribution or manufacturing of fireworks.
When it comes to actual positions, San Bruno has five openings up for grabs including the mayor seat with a two-year term, the city clerk and treasurer positions both with four-year terms and two four-year City Council seats.
Two candidates, Carol Bonner and Joyce Ann Fritz, are running for city clerk. Bonner brought in significantly more with a $16,385 campaign budget. Most of which, $10,385, came from donations. She received $100 from Millbrae City Councilman Robert Gottschalk.
Fritz raised $7,294 all from donations.
Mayor Larry Franzella, 50, is seeking re-election with only one challenger, Michael Salazar, a project manager.
Franzella boasts an $8,526 budget, with $6,226 from donations. Notably he received $250 from the Peninsula Coalition and $150 from the California Teamsters.
Salazar did not file any paperwork. A candidate is not required to file paperwork if they plan on taking in and spending less than $1,000.
Both City Council incumbents Chris Pallas and Ken Ibarra are running for reelection against Rico Medina, Scott Buschman, Stephen Pieraldi and Brad Forcier.
