"Asian Americans Shaping the Future” was the theme of the Organization of Chinese Americans San Mateo Chapter’s 20th Asian Pacific American Achievement Awards Gala held Sept. 15 at the South San Francisco Conference Center.
OCA is a national organization dedicated to advancing the social, political and economic well-being of Asian Pacific Americans in the United States. The OCA San Mateo Chapter, established in 1987, is one of four chapters in the Bay Area and one of seven chapters in California. The proceeds of the Dinner Gala go toward scholarships for high school students, the OCA National Internship Program and educational programs such as "Speak and Lead with Pride,” which provides high school students an opportunity to practice speaking skills and develop confidence. For the Gala, local OCA interns Ruby Chua, Victoria Souttaphonh and Charles Zhang produced a special power point presentation highlighting the San Mateo Chapter’s achievements through the years.
