Collision leads to DUI arrest
A Palo Alto man was arrested in Belmont early Sunday morning for driving while under the influence after he lost control of his car and struck a tree, injuring both himself and a passenger.
Jamaal Reginald Wells, 22, was arrested for felony DUI about 3:52 a.m. after police responded to a single car collision in the 2100 block of Cipriani Boulevard. Wells lost control of his car for unknown reasons and slammed into a tree. Wells required three stitches to his right knee and his 21-year-old male passenger complained of pain in his neck and ribs. The passenger also had abrasions around his neck and stomach that appeared to be caused by the seat belt. He was treated at San Mateo County Medical Center and released.
Police discovered Wells was intoxicated as well as driving with a suspended driver's license and no insurance. They did not release his blood alcohol content.
Wells was arrested and booked into the county jail.
