The Belmont City Council will honor a quiet 18-year-old resident who helped save a fellow student's life and asked that no one mention his good deed.
"It's really cool that people are really happy," said Matt Johnson who will receive recognition at Tuesday's City Council meeting.
On April 14, Johnson prevented a fellow student at Carlmont High School from losing a major amount of blood and attended to him until paramedics arrived on scene.
The student went to punch someone in the hallway and missed. He sent his arm smashing through a wired glass trophy case and then a small glass window in a nearby door. Johnson was among the number of students who flooded the hallway in response to the commotion.
Johnson, a Boy Scout, quickly moved into action. He lowered the boy to the ground so he wouldn't faint and cause greater injury to himself. Johnson then retrieved towels and applied them to the wound. He made a tourniquet and cared for the boy until paramedics arrived.

Johnson mentioned the incident to his parents but asked they keep it quiet. His proud parents told Johnson's Boy Scout leader and the information made its way to the City Council. He also recieved a certificate of merit from the Boy Scouts of America. Johnson, now a student at College of San Mateo and an assistant scout master, remains humble.
"I'm sure other people knew what to do. I just acted first," he said.
The council will meet at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 13, Council Chambers at City Hall, 1 Twin Pines Lane.
