A debate between candidates for the 12th Congressional District seat currently held by Tom Lantos will take place after all.
Margaret Neufer, co-president of the League of Women Voters of Central San Mateo County, sent out a letter yesterday saying that the debate is back on, but in a new location and format.
The debate will be held at San Mateo City Hall, Feb. 27 from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. Questions will be submitted by the audience and sorted by the league. It will be taped and copies will be given to Peninsula TV for broadcast.
The debate is four days before the March 2 election and Lantos' challengers had called it a sham since it takes place so late in the campaign.
Both the Daily Journal and the San Mateo County Times had expressed an interest in sponsoring the debate but both pulled out since the league requires that sponsors not make a previous endorsement.
Lantos is being challenged by Ro Khanna, Maad Abu-Ghazalah, Pat Gray, Christopher Huskins, Barry Hermanson and Mike Garza.
