College and university representatives from all the University of California campuses, the California State University campuses (or their Northern California "buddies”), and most of the private, secular or otherwise independent colleges in California will participate in the College and Career Fair 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 29 at Mills High School. There will also be colleges like DePauw, Arizona State, Northeastern, Villanova, Johnson & Wales, U. of Portland and Dartmouth. A complete list of all the programs participating this year will be posted as the "College & Career Fair Program” on the district Web site, www.smuhsd.org. The site not only includes current College and Career Fair happenings but also new resources like the "College Terms” document. These resources help students take advantage the 2009 College & Career Fair.

The two-hour event will allow students and parents time to talk directly with college and career representative or go over to the Mills Auditorium and listen to a presentation about a particular California college system. There will also be workshops on financial aid, the local community college system and a presentation (en Español) about EOPS and how EOPS (and similar support programs) can help all students succeed in college.

San Mateo High School drama presents "Leader of the Pack,” the Ellie Greenwich Musical Oct. 29 through Nov. 1.

"Leader of the Pack” celebrates the life and music of Ellie Greenwich, whose songwriting talents produced some of the greatest hits of the sixties, and defined the sound for the great girl groups, like the Ronettes, the Shangri-Las and the Crystals. The show features many of Ellie Greenwich’s memorable songs, including "Chapel of Love,” "Hanky Panky,” "Da Doo Ron Ron,” "Be My Baby” and many others.

"Leader of the Pack” features Tassa Markman as Ellie, Trevor Meacham as Jeff Barry, her musical and romantic partner, and Jasmine Martinez as the legendary Darlene Love, plus the incredible orchestra, dancing, lighting and fun for which all San Mateo High shows are renowned. The show is choreographed by Erin Mugglebee, with musical and vocal direction by Larry Rice.

Shows are 7:30 p.m. Thursday and Friday; 2 p.m. Saturday and Sunday at the San Mateo Performing Arts Center, 600 N. Delaware St. Tickets are $15 adults and $10 students and seniors. Tickets and information are available at www.smhsdrama.org or 558-2375.

Two time Grammy winner Bill Harley teams up with local storytelling treasure Willy Claflin for a world premiere concert 7 p.m. Oct. 29 at Sequoia High School in Carrington Hall, 1201 Brewster Ave. in Redwood City. Bill and Willy are phenomenal singers, storytellers and performers. To have them share a stage in a world premiere family concert is an event not to be missed.
