With Mother’s Day just a few weeks away, Redwood City is hosting an essay contest for students to express their love for their mothers.
The "Why I Love My Mom” contest is for students in kindergarten through eighth grade, and the deadline for entries is May 1.
The contest is sponsored by Redwood City’s Parks, Recreation and Community Services Department, as well as 1-800-DryClean, Edward Jones Investments, and the Redwood City Downtown Business Group.
To enter the contest, visit www.redwoodcity.org/wilmm.pdf to print and fill out the entry form. Essays should be 100 words or less, and should be sent to Mother’s Day Essay Contest, PO Box 2711, Redwood City, CA 94064.
Contest winners will read their essays to their mothers on Saturday, May 8 at Courthouse Square in downtown Redwood City during the city’s Mother's Day festivities. Mother’s Day is Sunday, May 9.

The essays will be judged in three different age groups. Winners and their mothers will each receive gifts, according to city officials.
