The San Mateo County District Attorney’s Office is looking into charges against a Millbrae resident who was arrested for felony hit-and-run and vehicular manslaughter in Burlingame on March 11.
The man, Joel Gilongos, 52, posted bail, San Mateo County District Attorney Steve Wagstaffe said, adding his office has requested more information.
O’Campo appeared to have the right-of-way and it seems that the driver ran a red light on El Camino Real, Orloff said.
While the intersection at Trousdale Drive and El Camino Real is busy, it isn’t considered a problem intersection for the city, he said. Orloff encouraged both pedestrians and drivers to remain aware of their surroundings at all times.
It’s the first pedestrian death in Burlingame in 2025.
The blame goes right to C/CAG and its very long list of "Board of Directors.
BANG just named El Camino Real ("The Grand Boulevard") the "Deadliest Road" in the Bay Area.
Between the years of
- 2002 - when the San Mateo County Grand Jury requested C/CAG to build more bike lanes and safer streets and ...
- 2022 - when the San Mateo County Grand Jury reported that C/CAG hasn't built the bike lanes and didn't create safer streets
... 129 people have died along El Camino Real.
For over 50 years now C/CAG is "trying hard" to create a bicycle lane network and safer streets, but somehow never can find the money, the time, or the political will to do it.
But when Corporate Interest and Unions are calling ....
... C/CAG Board Directors like Lisa Diaz Nash (San Mateo) will vote to remove bike lanes and Elmer Martinez Saballos (Redwood City) never even builds them in the first place.
But both seem very much into adding more "Lexus Lanes", air pollution, GHG emissions onto SR-101 and its various intersections (I84, I92, I380).
Everyone has their priorities (... and probably a price?)

"First pedestrian death in 2025". What about "second death in six months"?
