REDWOOD CITY — The 20-year-old son of former San Francisco Giants slugger Barry Bonds will stand trial on misdemeanor charges stemming from a fight with his mother that allegedly turned physical.
A San Mateo County Superior Court judge set Nikolai Bonds’ trial date for June 21 after prosecutors and Bonds’ attorney failed to reach a plea deal Tuesday.
Authorities say Bonds and his mother, Sun Bonds, got into an argument on Dec. 5 when she suggested her son’s friends may have taken jewelry from her home.
The young man allegedly threw a doorknob at his mother, spit in her face and stopped her from leaving through the front door. Authorities say he also threatened an officer who was called to the scene.
Bonds has pleaded not guilty to charges including battery, vandalism and threatening an officer.
