Firefighters raising funds for 'night vision' devices
San Mateo fire officials are looking for help from the community in purchasing eight devices that they say will help them find victims trapped in collapsed structures or hidden in smoke, as well as spot hidden fires in walls and ceilings.
Fire Capt. Christ Cilia said the devices, called thermal imagers, have saved many lives in other cities.
