The Redwood City man arrested for allegedly hanging his wife in a botched murder attempt now claims he was actually trying to save her from committing suicide.
Ormis Salgado, 39, was arrested June 14 after his wife called police to say he strung her up with a rope by the neck. He pleaded not guilty yesterday to one count of attempted murder and one count of inflicting great bodily harm.
Salgado's wife called police about 10:40 p.m. to report the attempted murder. She told police responding to the house in the 900 block of Broadway that Salgado beat her after an argument. He then allegedly tried to kill her by tying a rope around her neck. She managed to escape and contact authorities while Salgado escaped.
He was arrested a short time later at a building, also on Broadway, where he'd been living above a business.
The victim had visible ligature marks on her neck and was treated at Stanford Hospital, according to police reports.
