One man is dead and another is in custody following a stabbing at the Redwood City Caltrain station on Wednesday, according to the San Mateo County Sheriff’s Office.
The stabbing was reported shortly before 5 p.m. on the platform at the station at 1 James Ave.
The victim, a man from San Mateo, was taken to a hospital but the Sheriff’s Office was notified at about 9:40 p.m. that he had died. The Coroner’s Office identified the man as Joseph Carreiro, 66.
Investigators identified the suspect and at about 11:30 a.m. Thursday took him into custody in the 2600 block of El Camino Real in Redwood City, sheriff’s officials said.
The name of the suspect, a Redwood City man, is Jose Gomez Bustamante, 31.Â
The Sheriff’s Office is asking anyone who may have witnessed the stabbing to contact Detective N. Kostielney at nkostielney@smcgov.org or (650) 363-1831.
