Strong winds and periods of heavy rainfall are expected to come through the San Francisco Bay Area into Saturday morning, with winds of up to 60 or 70 mph possible in some higher elevations, according to the National Weather Service.
The worst conditions are expected to affect the region in the hours between 2 a.m. and 8 a.m. Saturday, when the North Bay could see rivers and streams start to swell. The weather service issued a flood watch for Sonoma, Napa and Marin counties that went into effect at 2 p.m. Friday and is expected to last until 4 p.m. Sunday.
A High Wind Warning, meaning sustained winds of 40 mph or stronger, is in effect from 10 p.m. Friday to 7 a.m. Saturday along the Bay Area coast and in the East Bay hills, forecasters said.
Light rain and moderate winds are expected to persist in the region through Saturday afternoon and evening before giving way to drier conditions Sunday, though more rain is expected to arrive on Monday. However, only about a quarter- to half-inch is expected, according to the weather service.
