Polo. Enjoy the beauty and power of this exciting sport Saturday as the Menlo Polo Club hosts the first U.S. Polo Association Sanctioned Ladies’ Tournament. Women in polo represent the largest growing sector in the sport, now accounting for 30 percent of USPA’s members.
Eight teams of amateur and professional women players compete in this free, family-friendly event. Opening ceremonies begin at 10:30 a.m. Matches, which last about 90 minutes, start at 10:40 a.m., 12:30 p.m. and 2:30 p.m. at the Menlo Circus Club, 190 Park Lane, Atherton.
Parking is available on Park Lane or at Sacred Heart School next door. There is limited bleacher seating and spectators are encouraged to bring comfortable chairs. Erik Wright, manager of the Menlo Polo Club, is on hand to provide information to those interested in learning the sport.
Polo clinics held at the Horsepark at Woodside place students in groups by skill level. No prior polo or riding experience is necessary and the majority of clinic players have never ridden before. Participants do not need to own a horse and may join at any point during the month or season.
