Riley Lim and Nate Hui, Serra baseball. While sophomore Aaron Minton was the hero at the plate, it was Serra’s pitching duo who anchored Saturday’s 3-2 win over Valley Christian in the CCS Division I championship game. Lim was Mr. Consistency, working five innings while allowing two runs on six hits while striking out five. Hui then danced through fire through two shutout innings of relief. His defensive brilliance on a Valley squeeze play cut down the would-be tying run at the plate in the seventh. He then closed it out by winning an eight-pitch at-bat to get a called strike three to cap the Padres’ first CCS title since 2009.
Evan Usher, Woodside boys’ track and field. The senior thrower capped his high school career with a pair of podium finishes at the CIF State Track & Field Championships at Buchanan High School in Clovis over the weekend. Usher finished fifth in the discus with a PR and the best throw by a CCS athlete this season, posting a mark of 179-11, which also set a new school record. He also added a fifth-place finish in the shot put with a throw of 58-4 3/4.
Victoria Torsh and Hannah Walker, Woodside softball. The Wildcats made history Saturday at San Jose City College with a 4-3 win over Palma, claiming the first CCS championship in their program’s history, with Torsh fueling the offense, and Walker anchoring things in the circle. Torsh was an unlikely hero, but broke through in the first inning with a three-run double. Walker then went to work by firing her sixth straight complete game of the year, raising her impressive workload to 152 2/3 innings pitched.
Landon Pretre, Menlo School boys’ track and field. The Wake Forest University commit made quite a run at the state title in the boys’ 3,200 meters, and settled for second place with a time of 8:54.25, several steps back of state champ Eyan Turk of Woodcrest Christian (8:51.62). Pretre finished in a cluster of contenders, though, and broke through against Paso Robles’ Tyler Daillak (third, 8:55.02) and Santa Cruz’s Eli Fitchen-Young (fourth, 8:55.72).
Lola Jones, Hillsdale softball. The sophomore pitcher helped lead the Knights to their first CCS championship since 1991 with strong efforts in the semifinals and title. She allowed just one run over 14 innings pitched, giving up a total of 10 hits. She shutout Notre Dame-Belmont 2-0 in the semifinals, giving up four hits and striking out 11. In the CCS Division II title game, she allowed one run on six hits, while striking out six in a 4-1 win over San Mateo. Offensively, Jones had an RBI in each game.
Sophia Shelton, Hillsdale softball. The junior drove in a pair of runs to help lead the Knights to the CCS Division II title. She singled home the Knights’ first run in the bottom of the second and then drove in her team’s final run in a game-defining three-run bottom of the fifth.

Avery Boyse, Burlingame girls’ track and field. The UCLA commit reached the state podium in the girls’ pole vault, hitting 12-2 to claim fourth place. The senior had never advanced to a postseason final at any level previous to this year, but made her mark this season by claiming both the Peninsula Athletic League and Central Coast Section championships. Boyse’s future UCLA teammate Paige Echsner of Del Notre won the state title at 12-10.
Kyler Heath, Serra boys’ golf. The sophomore qualified for the state championship tournament Tuesday at Poppy Hills Golf Course in Monterey with a tie for seventh with an even-par 72 at the Northern California championship round at Berkeley Country Club in El Cerrito. Heath finished with five birdies during his round.
Luke Lewis, Serra boys’ track and field. The senior Stanford commit brought home a third-place medal from the CIF Track & Field Championships, recording a throw of 58 feet, 6 3/4 inches Saturday night at Buchanan High School in Clovis. Clovis North senior McKay Madsen won the state title at 69-11. Still, Lewis wrapped up his Serra career in style. After finishing in 10th place in each of the past two seasons, his third-place throw earned him the first state podium finish of his varsity career.
Alice Han, San Mateo softball. The sophomore shortstop showed what the next couple of years could look like as she helped the Bearcats to their first-ever appearance in a CCS championship game. In a 2-1 semifinal win over Everett Alvarez, Han went 2 for 4 with an RBI. In the title game, a 4-1 loss to Hillsdale, she went 3 for 4 with a double and a home run for the Bearcats’ only run.
Benjamin Bouie, Crystal boys’ track and field. The Harvard commit took second place in the boys’ 1,600 Saturday night at the CIF Track & Field Championships, and set a new Central Coast Section record in the process. Bouie ran the four-lap race in a all-time personal record 4:04.84, and was less than two seconds behind state champion Conor Lott of Clovis North, who won it in 4:03.32.
