Any chance Half Moon Bay had of catching Menlo-Atherton for a share of the Peninsula Athletic League Bay Division boys’ basketball title ended Friday night, as the Cougars (7-3 PAL Bay, 13-9 overall) were drubbed 57-32 at Carlmont.
By virtue of HMB’s loss, M-A claims the PAL Bay championship outright for the second straight season. The Cougars have now lost two straight in league play for the first time since 2018-19. M-A was out of action Friday with a bye.
Carlmont junior Jordan Rice led the way with 21 points, while junior Ayaan Omer added 13 points. Gio Garduno-Martin led HMB with 10 points.
With the win, the third-place Scots (7-4, 12-9) move to within one game in the loss column of second-place HMB. Carlmont plays its final regular-season game Tuesday with a bye this coming Friday. HMB’s has two games to go, including its regular-season finale against M-A.
