Burlingame senior Lauren Aguilar, Terra Nova junior Sophia Darer and St. Francis sophomore Katherine Love are into Saturday’s blood rounds Saturday on the final day of the CIF State Wrestling Championships at Mechanics Bank Arena in Bakersfield.
Love — a resident of San Mateo — is seeded No. 7 in the girls’ 125-pound division. She advanced to the quarterfinals with two straight wins before falling to No. 2 Shayna Ward of Oakland Tech via major decision. Love is one win away from the podium. She faces No. 4 Skye Schneider of Elk Grove in the consolation bracket Saturday.

At 120s, Aguilar lost a stunner in Thursday’s opening match. The two-time Central Coast Section champion was ahead on the scoreboard when she was pinned by Monache’s AlexAndrea Corona 33 seconds into the first round. She bounced back with two straight wins — a second-round pin against Warren’s Ariele Cazares and Reedley’s Kenzie Herrera — and will face Benicia’s Svea Gonzalez with a podium spot on the line Saturday.
At 110s, Darer, the No. 6 seed, will face Martin Luther King’s Giada Tanahara with a chance to clinch a podium finish Saturday. Darer dropped Thursday’s opener via third-round fall to Peninsula’s Leila Witzerman. She bounced back to win three straight, against Hanford’s Ariel Reyes via fall, against Archie Williams’ Sofia De Jesus via major decision, and against Northview’s Maria Saldana via 6-3 decision.
Three county boys advanced to the round of 16, but fell short of the podium. At 144s, Serra’s Sebastian Garcia went 2-2 at the tourney, getting eliminated by Newport Harbor’s Demian Pryima, the No. 12 seed, via 11-4 decision. At 175s, Menlo-Atherton senior Eric Ruiz went 2-2, getting eliminated by Clovis North’s Jackson Cinfel, the No. 13 seed, via 10-4 decision. At 190s, South City senior Ryder De Asis went 2-2, getting eliminated by Clovis’ Lolo Clark via 10-4 decision.
