MUNICH (AP) — Bayern Munich coach Vincent Kompany signed a two-year contract extension on Tuesday, tying him to the German champions until 2029.
The former Manchester City and Belgium defender joined Bayern ahead of the 2024-25 season and won the Bundesliga in his first year in charge.
Bayern has won its first seven games of the current league season and is five points clear.
“I’m grateful, honored and would like to thank Bayern for the trust and the working environment they’ve given me from day one,” the 39-year-old Kompany said.
“It feels like I’ve been here a lot longer and that I know the club well. It’s been a great experience so far. We’ve started on a wonderful journey.”

Bayern CEO Jan-Christian Dreesen said Kompany has “brought the fun back to Bayern — and the spark has really caught on.”
“Under his leadership, a real team has grown that plays dominant and attractive football,” Dreesen said. “The (contract) extension is also a signal to our players.”
Kompany was previously the manager at Burnley, which he couldn't prevent getting relegated from the Premier League at the end of the 2023-24 season.
