Burlingame 5, Hillsdale 2
The Panthers got strong play in singles, winning three of the four matches, as they downed the Knights in a PAL Bay Division meeting.
Halle Martinucci, playing at No. 1 for Burlingame, made quick work of her opponent, winning 6-0, 6-0. Maddie Wachhorst dropped only two games in each set as she won at No. 2 singles 6-2, 6-2.
Alyson Resnick had the toughest singles match of the day, needing a third-set, super tiebreaker to pull out a 6-4, 6-7 (6-8), (10-8) win oer Sophia Roser.
Hillsdale’s Solana Deguchi prevented the Panthers from sweeping singles as she posted a 6-1, 6-1 win at No. 4 singles.
In doubles action, Vedika Bhaumik and Olina Du, at No. 2 doubles, and the No. 3 doubles team of Allie McHugh and Rebekah Coleman combined to lose only three games in Burlingame’ two doubles win. Bhaumik and Du won 6-2, 6-0, while McHugh and Coleman posted a 6-1, 6-1 victory.
The Knights picked up their second win on the day at No. 1 doubles, where Lana Feltsman and Jadeline Miao outlasted Meghan Hockridge and Elena Middlemass, 6-4, 6-7 (9-11), (10-6).
Aragon 5, Half Moon Bay 2
The Dons struggled in the singles matches, splitting the four with the Cougars, but Aragon swept the doubles to post the win.
Diana Gong, playing at No. 1 singles for the Dons, won her match at love, 6-0, 6-0.
But Half Moon Bay’s Rachel Brody won at No. 2 singles when Aretha Chen had to retire with an injury. Brithany Garcia gave the Cougars their only other win at No. 3 singles, 7-6 (7-4), 6-3.
In doubles action, Aragon did not drop a set and lost only nine games over three matches. The No. 3 doubles team of Yasmina Malouf and Anouk Seibulescu won 6-0, 6-0.
Menlo-Atherton 6, San Mateo 1
The Bears cruised past another PAL Bay Division opponent, although they did lose a match in this one. San Mateo’s Aida Lowe and Lauren Young remained unbeaten at No. 1 doubles with a 6-2, 6-3 victory to account for the Bearcats’ lone win.
Other than that, it was all M-A. Julia Marks (No. 1 singles), Sophia Longo (No. 2 singles) and Sarah Marks (No. 4 singles) all won 6-0, 6-0 for the Bears.
Girls’ golf
Sequoia 202, South City 208
Sammie Ellard carded a hole-in-one on the 5th hole to lead the Cherokees to the Ocean Division win over the Warriors.
Ellard’s ace on the 98-yard No. 5 and Mariner’s Point, along with a birdie at No. 3 gave her a 3-under 24 and low round of the day honors.
South City was led by Catherine Batang’s 1-over 28, which included a birdie at No. 5.
Burlingame 260, Menlo-Atherton 278

Both the Panthers’ Jody Chui and the Bears’ Joanne Yuh tied for low-score honors as both shot 43s, but it was Burlingame that came away with the win at Poplar Creek Golf Course in San Mateo.
Boys’ water polo
Sequoia 17, San Mateo 6
The Cherokees took a 4-1 lead after one period and never looked back as they beat the Bearcats in a PAL Ocean Division match.
San Mateo got three goals from Jacob Wetherbee. Colton Finn, Joseph Borges and Eric Oliveira also scored for the Bearcats.

Girls’ cross country
Aragon runner wins first PAL race of season
The Dons’ Emma Madgic, a junior, followed up a record-setting race two weeks ago with a first-place finish at the first Peninsula Athletic League meet of the season at the Half Moon Bay cross country course.
Madgic beat 104 other runners, covering th 2.33-mile course in a time of 14:23, a 6:10 mile pace.
Two weeks ago at the Early Bird Invitational at Toro Park in Frenso, Madgic smashed the school record as she finished second in her race and had the sixth-best time of nearly 800 runners. Her time of 18:44 was 12 seconds faster than the previous record of 18:56 set by Lauren Croshaw in 2010.
Sand volleyball
NDB’s Peters finishes third
Kendall Peters, 16-years-old and a junior at Notre Dame-Belmont, teamed with 15-year-old Caitlin Cummings of Lick-Wilmerding High, to finish third at the CBVA Women’s Beach Volleyball tournament in Manhattan Beach.
After a first-round bye, Peters and Cummings won their quarter-final bracket match, 28-20, to move into the semifinals.
In the final four, they went up against longtime sand veterans Abby Van Winkle and Jayelin Lombard, who defeated the high schoolers 28-24.
Van Winkle and Lombard went on to win the tournament.
Peters and Cummings were ranked in the bottom half of the 22-team field, but went undefeated in pool play and earning a first-round bye in the knock-phase of the tournament.
Boys’ water polo
Serra goes 3-0 in tournament
The Padres hosted its own tournament Saturday and had a strong showing, outscoring three teams 52-17.
They opened with a 19-2 win over Aragon, followed by a 17-6 decision over Christopher and 16-9 over West Catholic Athletic League rival Mitty, 16-9.
