How many people living the mid-peninsula area know about this wonderful organization known as Samaritan House? Well let me tell you things you may have never known. Samaritan House has been in existence for over 29 years and many of our neighbors have no idea what wonderful things they do for so many people. I am a retired nurse, over 70 years of age and I have been volunteering in Samaritan House Free Clinic for at least eight years.
Samaritan House screens people who do not have health care insurance. Many are the working poor, many have never seen a doctor, many are homeless and if they are eligible, they are sent to our free clinic in San Mateo and one in Redwood City. The care given to these people is undoubtedly the best anyone could even get in the private sector.
My reason for writing this letter is to make a plea for doctors and nurses, retired or still working, to come and volunteer four hours a week, four hours a month or whatever time they can spare to do a wonderful community service to many of our needy citizens. The clinic also needs volunteers to help with the front office and interpreters to work with the patients. I am hoping this letter will bring a terrific response. It is so badly needed. Times are tough, money is scarce, jobs have been lost, benefits reduced and health care is in DIRE NEED of improvement and help.
Please phone the Samaritan House Clinic if you can give us some help. The number is 347-1556. The address of the clinic is 117 North San Mateo Dr., San Mateo. We're hoping to get many calls from doctor and nurses and other volunteers to help in the front office.
