I understand that a lot of the public have concerns about the safety of self driving cars on the streets of their neighborhoods. I believe that self-driving cars benefit society instead of being a hindrance. Making vehicles fully autonomous will nullify any shred of human error, thus preventing accidents.
This gives us a chance to focus on other things, whether it be running errands or texting, instead of the road. Additionally, this can prevent excessive traffic buildup and expedite travel. In conclusion, people should be more concerned of human error instead of computer error, as there is a greater chance of an accident than cars installed with AI.
Thanks for your letter, Ms. Chang. But just like people, AI follows the same quality in, quality out and garbage in, garbage out process. We would that quality would be king but the increasing number of AI hallucinations (for search AI) and the ability of a traffic cone to render inoperable a self-driving car show this isn’t true. AI has been shown to be able to be corrupted and instead of human error, they’re undergoing computer errors/hallucinations. The genie is out of the bottle and we’ll learn to live with the good and the bad, warts and all. Which will win? Currently, we need a lot of Compound W.
