Editor,

The primary responsibility of government is to protect and keep safe the populace in their jurisdiction. This is not happening in San Mateo. I note millions of dollars authorized without discussion under the consent calendar portion of every City Council meeting. I suggest some of those funds allocated for consultants to “study and run outreach and community meetings” (repeatedly) and money from the rainy day fund be used to increase police staffing and provide the cars, motorcycles etc. they need to  provide a safe environment for all the citizens of San Mateo.

Well written, Ms. Grubb. It seems wasting millions on police oversight, wasting millions of stormwater funds and maintenance to somewhere other than stormwater projects to who knows where, among your other listed items, are more important than a safe environment for the citizens of San Mateo. Fund the police and let’s start voting out the folks who waste our money and shirk their responsibility to protect and keep us safe.

Ms. Grubb and Terence, Well said. Thank you.

The hard-left leadership of our city will be our undoing........soon.....if they don't do an about face and lead with ole' fashioned centrist methods of integrity, honesty, conservatism, economic restraint and sound judgment, abolish the murals, DEI, and other destructive progressive (and fleeting) ideologies. I miss Jerry Hill's leadership style. Let's hope other talented conservatives step up and run for office.

Merry Christmas.
