This letter is written in regard to the roundabout/island on 5th Avenue and Eldorado.
I clearly do not understand the purpose or function of this roundabout/island. If it is intended to slow traffic, it may very well do just that. It will, however, slow any emergency vehicle trying to manuver around the roundabout/island.
It is difficult for a person driving a car to make a safe turn. The roundabout/island adds no beauty to the neighborhood and in my opinion is an eyesore. It is hard to believe that plants are left in nursery pots, connected to chains and left to serve as landscaping.
I have to wonder who gave the final approval for this project. I don't think the City of San Mateo would approve landscaping for homes if it were done in this manner. It looks like a project that was started and never finished.
How long do we have to look at this eyesore, before some sort of permanent landscaping is done?
