The letter writer from San Mateo questioned where local residents gather their information and he started with a common critical error then compounded it with the standard MAGA talking point about the bias of traditional liberal media outlets and preponderance of “fake news” they provide. His critical error is, as he said, “I ASS-U-ME” where folks get their news from. Enough said. Then he gives the long list of networks supporting his faulty assumption. I can admit that neither myself, anyone in my family, nor anyone in my large circle of educated friends watch or gather information from any of those cited sources. We generally rely on Reuters, BBC and the Associated Press and of course our local blessed rag, The Daily Journal. A quick search verifies those three centrists news agencies present facts over fiction without bias either right or left. Perhaps that is why our DJ relies on AP for its national coverage?
After providing us with another list of “fake news” stories presented mostly by his sources (I will ASS-U-ME he watches FOX, OneAmerica, Newsmax, Breitbart) he did go on to admit there are many things President Trump can be criticized for yet mysteriously failed to present THAT list which is certainly way too long for for this space.
To answer his final question, this President Trump critic always questions the truthfulness of information and sources, or was he being rhetorical? Be careful throwing stones near your glass house!
Please dont call the DJ a "rag." It is doing a good job considering all the problems nups face. As for liberal bias, just read Anne Tsai's column on this very page. More bias than a used prom dress..
Thanks for your letter, Mr. Sinks. It’s interesting to hear you rely on two of three mainstream news sources not based in America. It should come as no surprise that they’re as capable of being complicit in providing fake news than “domestic” mainstream news sources. Regardless, I’d direct you to read a recent article from the White House highlighting lies provided by some of news sources/adjacent you trust (https://www.whitehouse.gov/articles/2025/04/100-days-of-hoaxes-cutting-through-the-fake-news/). Seems to me you should expand your sources to include FOX, OneAmerica, Newsmax, Breitbart so you’ll be aware of fake news originating from your so-called centrist news agencies. BTW, is the AP allowed back on Air Force One and in the Oval Office? I believe AP’s selfishness caused other wire news sources to be lumped in and restricted from total access.
You always begin with thanking people for their letter as if you are the editor or publisher. It's quite the position you've imagined. Oh, and my favorite news source is PBS, one no one mentioned.
Thanks for your response, HFAB. I’m not sure how you were raised but some were taught to hand out the good with the bad. With numerous letters and comments from TDS-afflicted folks, the only “good” I can hand out is thanking them for giving us a piece of their heart. Not mind, but heart. I also believe one’s writings expose who they are, so thanks for showing us who you are. And there’s a reason Trump is de-funding PBS. BTW, are you sure I’m not an editor or publisher?
Dear Gus, let's not kid ourselves. Most of us tap news sources that we are generally in agreement with. I personally find the foreign sources far more objective, although few can avoid news coming from the USA. We are at the center of attention, whether we like it or not. You appear quite critical of the conservative media sources, which are also lock-step, but how do you explain CNN's coverage of Biden's health issues for the past 4 years and is now scrambling to retract its positions? How credible are any of our news media?
