Congratulations to U.S. Rep. Kevin Mullin for another initiative to raise taxes on working people. Only someone as tone deaf as he would broadcast his efforts to raise the income level at which people are deemed below the poverty line, thereby making millions more people in the country eligible for welfare, including Supplemental Nutrition Assistance, Children’s Health Insurance, School Lunch and free medical care via Medicaid.
Who is going to pay for this? How much more will taxpayers be expected to pay to support others, particularly in California where the cost of living for everyone is so high? Perhaps if people would only have the number of kids they could afford, instead of counting on others to pay for them, the problem would be alleviated.
I suggest Mr. Mullin take the money that would be spent on his welfare broadening initiative and use it for family planning, including birth control, removal of financial incentives to have children you cannot afford, and tightening work requirements for those receiving welfare payments.
People are already feeling so overtaxed they are leaving California and taking their income and tax money with them. If the tax burden continues to increase, this trend will accelerate. What will you do then, Mr. Mullin, have all the people on welfare move in with you?

Mr, Grubb - Many thanks! Well said. You echo the thoughts of many of us.
Many good points, Mr. Grubb! But then we have Republican leadership with serious plans of making birth control illegal! How do we combat such nonsense? Perhaps try to convince Republicans to vote Democratic, - for their own good, which has been a very difficult educational process so far?
