By now, we all know the opponents of Marina Shores Village are against "luxury housing." Marina Shores Village is not luxury housing. More importantly, did you know that if Measure Q fails, Redwood City would lose an opportunity to have 290 affordable homes built at no cost to taxpayers?
In their zeal to stop "luxury housing" the opponents of Measure Q decided their opposition to Marina Shores Village trumps the needs of 290 working families that want and need affordable housing. It is very simple. If Marina Shores Village isn't built, 290 working families will not have the opportunity to buy an affordable home.
The simple fact is that building affordable units isn't in the financial interest of most real estate developers, funds for non-profit builders have been slowly decreasing during these tough economic times, and the city does not have the resources to build affordable housing on its own.
In the last five years, Redwood City has built only 20 affordable housing units. At this rate, it will take Redwood City more than 30 years to match the number of affordable homes planned for Marina Shores Village. There is a solution. With Measure Q, we have the opportunity to approve 1,930 new homes, of which 290 are affordable homes.

A yes vote on Measure Q will bring our community 290 affordable homes.
It makes you question who the opponents of Measure Q are protecting - the residents and workers in Redwood City - or themselves. Think About It.
