Editor,

In 1940, all persons self-identifying as Jews, were told by the Nazi government to voluntarily register their residences in Krakow, Poland, or be considered to be criminals.

Not So Common

Ms Mangini your ignorance and hate is on full display, you should feel embarrassed. Trump is not Hitler no matter how you see and or spin things. It truly is disgraceful for anyone, no matter their political ideology, to perpetuate and repeat the democrats warped talking points out loud.

Dirk van Ulden

Ms. Mangini - your shameless interpretation of historical events is an indication that you suffer from TDS. The Jews in Germany were legal residents, born and raised there. Their citizenship was taken away from them. Many German Jews, while they could, fled to other countries, including the Netherlands, where they were registered as aliens. Tragically, they were eventually rounded up by the Nazis anyway. They had no country to return to. Illegal aliens in this country do have a place to go, HOME. The current HMS Secretary is encouraging those who came here illegally to return and try again with the required immigration documents. What Trump is asking for is the registration of illegal residents, those who came here without authorization. As Terence mentioned, that has been a legal requirement for ever but mostly ignored by recent administrations.

Thanks for your letter, Ms. Mangini, but you’re comparing apples to oranges. One registry led to the potential death of registered Jews whereas the registry for illegal persons will lead only to potential deportation, not death. Not only that, it’s my understanding that the registry Trump is proposing is an existing law in the books, from around 1940.

The way I see it for those who illegally entered our country, choosing to register is a risk-based decision. Either opt to not register and when you’re found and deported, it’s highly likely you’ll be banned from entering the US for a number of years, if not permanently, with a much smaller or negligible chance of attaining citizenship. Or opt to register and perhaps you’ll be allowed to “get in line” to become a legal citizen, especially if you have not committed any other crimes. And you won’t be deported ahead of those who have not registered. Again, a risk-based decision. And much as some would like to scare people into not registering, those registering don’t need to worry about being killed.

Oh please! Have you checked out the number of death threats against refugee migrants in the Darian Gap or any other Latin American country where gang-violence has sent families by the thousands seeking safety elsewhere? Of course they need to worry about being killed. If not in their own country, by the MAGA Proud Boy militias in or own country.

Dirk van Ulden

Tell me, NM, how many migrants have killed by the ProudBoys? How many have been killed by the human smuggling cartels on their way to our border? You are not only severely misinformed but you seem to believe that most of these migrants are coming because of violence in their respective countries. Nothing is further from the truth. They are coming for economic reasons and that is facilitated by USAID and NGOs. They need bleeding heart types like you to keep their criminal business going.

Oh please, Ms. Mangini! Now you’re adding lemons to your apples and oranges. As with Mr. van Ulden’s inquiries, how many invaders from the south have been killed by MAGA Proud Boys militias and how many migrants are killed attempting to enter our country illegally? Remember, there’s an existing process to claim asylum. If these folks availed themselves of the legal process those deaths would not occur. Have you checked out the number of death threats that President Trump and Elon Musk and others have received in their quest to Make America Great Again? (I’m adding peaches to your fruit bowl.) BTW, can’t miss reality TV this evening with a non-SOTU SOTU speech. Let’s see what spectacle Dems will do to embarrass themselves. Will we see a rerun of Pelosi and her speech-ripping fit of pique?
