To the Editor:
I find it both hypocritical and amusing that Linda Chavez would blame "the politics of personal destruction" for her withdrawal as nominee for Labor Secretary.

I find it both hypocritical and amusing that Linda Chavez would blame "the politics of personal destruction" for her withdrawal as nominee for Labor Secretary.
Hypocritical because as 1993 videotapes of her played on TV this week show, Ms. Chavez has a pretty high powered personal destruction gear of her own.
Amusing because, hey, she who lives by the politics personal destruction gets to die by the same.
And really, the time to call for an end to the politics of personal destruction is not right after her gang has just won an election by slathering on eight years of well financed mean-spiritedness. If Ms. Chavez has no mirrors handy, she should try tuning her radio to Lucianne Goldberg, Rush Limbaugh, or any number of other Right-wing "hot talk" radio personalities for a really professional lesson in the politics of personal destruction... There is no equivalent on the Left in this country, and the tone she complains about is sung in the voice of her own allies.
