Catch 22

Is San Mateo County going downhill? According to the Wall Street Journal it is. In an attempt to compete with the New York Times, The Wall Street Journal has a new Bay Area section. Last week’s coverage featured the woes of our county including the San Bruno explosion. Costs for responding to the San Bruno disaster exacerbate the financial troubles with roots in the housing meltdown and Lehman bankruptcy. That’s the headline. It is true that more than 500 San Mateo county workers responded to the San Bruno catastrophe. PG&E will have to pay for most of the damage but the county may also have to foot part of the bill.
